David Warlick Something about New School

Over the past few weeks, as part of a writing project, I've been trying to reconcile some ideas about teaching and learning that I'd formulated a few years ago, with some of the shifts that have been happening since -- mostly with regard to web 2.0 and especially with the rich new conversations that have been occurring about this new information landscape -- and through that landscape.

Jared "The Achievement Gap" and real impacts

This week I'm writing a series on technology and "The Achievement Gap" on my social desktop. This is the third part of the series which takes concepts introduced by "'The Achievement Gap' and culture", and distinguishes between established methods for addressing the problem and making real changes. In my last article I promised to go more into technology, but it seems that the problem I'm addressing needs more distinction at this time.

Jared Making Connections accross networks

I want to write a little bit about the database I've put online for educators that want to collaborate directly with other classrooms.

I got the idea from interacting with teachers on ning. I've been trying to contact as many teachers as possible through many networks and it dawned on me that I'm making connections that a lot of educators need but can't make on their own because they don't have the time. I also noticed that a database of these people doesn't exist anywhere yet. So, th… Continue

Nancy White Reflections on TIE and our changing world

I've just returned from the annual Technology in Education conference in Colorado. The theme this year, TIEvolotion is very appropriate as the emphasis at this conference is changing - just as education slowly changes and leaders begin to understand that technology is just a tool - much like paper, pencil or chalkboard. It is how you use the tool that allows the transformation in education and emphasis to switch from the teaching of technology applications

Nancy White I wonder as I wander...

I have been doing a lot of wandering through blogs, wikis, podcasts and vodcasts lately. I'm not quite sure what I'm looking for, and because of that, I seem to be following a myriad of links from one thought to the next. My overarching theme, if you will, is something like "School 2.0" - where are we, where are we going ...it rather mirrors my very search! Well, let me get another firestorm started here.... If we are to have School 2.0, and if that form of school includes some of the traditional "trappings" that we have currently, then it follows that we may have to include administrators in the staffing diagram. Further, if we are to have adminis… Continue

Because SCHOOL is about credentials. It's not about LEARNING.

If I want to learn, I ask a friend, I read a book, I visit the web, I go to the library, I ask questions of people who might know something. I try stuff out. I fail a few times. Ok, I fail a lot of times. Eventually I figure it out and move on. I've learned something.
